Community Project for 2007 McLean County Fair...

This year's Project

Central Illinois Woodworkers Club of Bloomington-Normal will be out at the fair again this year, this time helping to create bird houses for Mclean County, along with duck houses that will be sent to the Katrina stricken Louisiana. This year, the community will be putting together bird houses that will be put up along the Constitution Trail, used by Parkland's Foundation, and also for Illinois Department of Natural Resourses for anyone who requests a birdhouse. As always, if you want to take your bird house home with you, you can pay $1 to put it up so you can enjoy the birds in your own backyard.

About the Birds

The House Wren is one of the most common and enjoyable backyard birds.
It's beautiful bubbling calls are a joy to hear during the summer. House wrens generally nest in wooded, shrubby habitats. their nests are characterized by twigs and six to eight eggs.

The Eastern Bluebird is one of the most popular songbirds in Illinois.
Their brilliant blue colors, delightfull calls, clean habits, and family devotion have long provided happiness and inspiration to people. They generally live in mixed hardwood forests and grasslands; or other grassy areas such as meadows, pastures, yards, or along side highways. Bluebird nests are neat, cup-shaped structures made of fine grass, with five eggs in a nest.

The American Kestrel is our smallest falcon.
It is abundant in agricultural areas which are characterized by scattered woodlots, trees, shelterbelts, meadows, highways, pastures, and hay fields. The American Kestrel is highly valuable because of the large numbers of rodents and insects it eats. Kestrels normally lay five eggs and live in areas with grassy fields for hunting.
